ReMedy

ReMedy

The centre is implementing the Project called „Regenerative Mechanisms for Health”. ReMedy is engaged in comprehensive and complementary research on living organisms. This knowledge will be used to combat diseases in which cellular regenerative pathways are weakened (as in neurodegenerative diseases) or over-strengthened (as in cancer cells). At the end of 2020, the Remedy project was implemented in the newly established International Institute of Molecular Mechanisms and Machines of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IMol PAS).

Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska
Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska
Full Professor of Biology, Director of The International Institute of Molecular Mechanisms and Machines Polish Academy of Sciences (IMol PAS) where she heads the Laboratory of Mitochondrial Biogenesis. Graduated from Biology Faculty at the University of Warsaw; received a doctoral degree in biochemistry at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences with Prof. Magdalena Boguta, and a habilitation degree from the same institute. Completed post-doctoral training with Prof. Nikolaus Pfanner, followed by a junior group leader position at the University of Freiburg, Germany. Professor at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw from 2009, in 2017 she became the Director of the Centre of New Technologies of the University of Warsaw. In 2020 she was appointed the Director of the newly established IMol Institute. Interested in biochemistry of cells and molecular aspects of cell biology. This includes biogenesis, transport and degradation of mitochondrial proteins and their failure resulting in pathologies. Corresponding member of the PAS, laureate of the Prime Minister’s Award, the Copernicus Award, the Award of the Minister of Science and Higher Education, the Award of the President of the PAS. Member of EMBO and Academia Europaea.
Prof. Maria Magda Konarska
Prof. Maria Magda Konarska
Professor and Deputy Director for Science at the International Institute of Molecular Mechanisms and Machines Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) where she heads the Laboratory of RNA Biology. Professor Emeritus at the Rockefeller University in New York where she headed the Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry for 26 years. Her research interests include studies of RNA function in cellular processes, in particular the mechanism of pre-mRNA splicing. Graduated in genetics at the University of Warsaw, then obtained her PhD at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics, PAS. She completed her postdoctoral training at the Center for Cancer Research, MIT, in Cambridge, USA, and was a Professor at the Rockefeller University in New York. Corresponding member of the PAS, winner of numerous national and international fellowships, grants, and scientific awards. Member of EMBO and Academia Europaea.
