Prof. Tomasz Dietl is a Head of the International Research Centre MagTop. His current research interests are focused on developing material systems and device concepts for nanospintronics of topological insulators, ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic semiconductors, and hybrid metal/semiconductor nanostructures. He is a fellow of the Institute of Physics, UK, the American Physical Society, and the Japanese Society of Applied Physics, and the member of Academia Europaea. In 2008, prof. Dietl obtained an Advanced Grant (FunDMS) of ERC.

THE SCOPE OF THE RESEARCH

Researchers in the Theory Team at MagTop, by using effective Hamiltonian, empirical tight binding, and ab initio methods, develop theories of topological matter aiming at inspiring materials development teams as well as help in the interpretation of experimental results. The Team members collaborate with many groups in Europe, Japan, Taiwan, and USA. Particularly interesting and challenging is collaboration with the Vigo System in determining band structure of detector-relevant multilayer devices.
