Dr. Jakub Mieczkowski obtained a master’s degree in mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw in 2008. In 2008-2013, he was a PhD student at the Institute of Experimental Biology. M. Nencki Polish Academy of Science, where he obtaiuned his doctoral degree in biological sciences (cum laude) with a specialization in bioinformatics. In 2013-2016 he worked as a Research Fellow in genetics at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital. He returned to Poland and carried out his own research projects at the Institute of M. Nencki. Since December 2019, he has been the head of the Computational Biology Group created as part of the International Research Agenda – 3P Research Medicine Laboratory.

THE SCOPE OF THE RESEARCH

We are interested in cellular responses to environmental stimulations in the context of their genetic, epigenetic, and environmental background. We use high-throughput approaches to study cell transitions, cell-cell communications, and chromatin transformations. In particular in cancer cells to provide diagnostic and therapeutic solutions. Our key focus is using computational and experimental approaches to dissect, model, and interrogate changes in chromatin structure and gene expression regulations triggered by genetic modifications and/or extracellular stimulations. We pursue multi-disciplinary projects aiming to uncover patterns in chromatin and gene expression profiles relating to the cell state.
