Integrated Structural Biology (former name: Pharmacology Group)
Humberto Fernandes, PhD, completed his PhD in Mariusz Jaskolski Lab (Poznan), where he trained in X-ray crystallography. He moved to carry out postdoctoral work with Amir Khan (Dublin), then with Stephen Curry (London), expanding and integrating crystallography with other structural and biophysics techniques. Moving back to Poland, for a semi-independent researcher in the lab of Matthias Bochtler (Warsaw), continuing using structural biology and developed a project cent on DNA sequencing.
THE SCOPE OF THE RESEARCH
Research at the Integrated Structural Biology Group aims to elucidate the mechanisms of vision, in particular proteins of the so-called visual cycle, at an atomic and molecular level, by using structural biology techniques and other complementary biophysics characterization methods, with the ultimate goal to help developing therapeutics for the treatment of eye disorder(s), help prevent, or at least delaying, the onset of eye diseases.
