Jan Kamiński, PhD, head of the Laboratory of Neurophysiology of Mind, defended his Master’s thesis at SWPS University in 2007. In 2012 he was conferred the PhD degree, with distinctions, by the Necki Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He has been twice a scholarship holder within the START programme of the Foundation for Polish Science, as well as a winner of the EBBS Rhodes Young Investigator Award and Primus Inter Pares. He has authored numerous articles published in prestigious scientific journals including Nature Neuroscience, Neuron and Current Biology.

THE SCOPE OF THE RESEARCH

The Laboratory of Neurophysiology of Mind exploits a unique opportunity of recording single neurons in humans during clinical procedures which require direct access to the patient’s brain for clinical reasons. Our objective is to investigate the neural mechanisms responsible for the course of higher cognitive processes and their pathologies related to nervous system disorders. For these purposes, we make use of advanced methods of data analysis, such as machine learning or neural network modelling.
