SiPM Systems for Astroparticle Physics and Medical Physics
Dr. Kuźniak is an experimental physicist, leader of the SiPM Systems for Astroparticle and Medical Physics Group at Astrocent, member of DEAP-3600 and DarkSide collaborations. He specializes in the search for elusive particles that compose dark matter. At Queen’s and Carleton Universities in Canada he led the analysis team of currently the most sensitive liquid argon detector, DEAP-3600 (located 2 km underground at SNOLAB), and the groups that develop key technical components of the detector.
THE SCOPE OF THE RESEARCH
The group is focused on developing new technologies enabling the next generation of very large liquid argon-based detectors for dark matter and neutrino research. The group specializes in light collection and detection, particularly in wavelength shifting materials, needed to detect ultraviolet emission from liquid argon, as well as in novel silicon photomultipliers. Group members work on analysis of data from the ongoing experiments, R&D and Monte Carlo simulations.
